Incorporated in 1946 Nigerian Breweries plc pioneered the brewing of lager beers in Nigeria when it introduced Starlager beer in 1949. Today Nigerian Breweries operates five breweries in Nigeria and has a diverse range of products. Apart from it brewing activities, the company is also involved in the marketing of stout and non-alcoholic malt drinks and the bottling of carbonated drinks and airated waters. With the acquisition of a controlling interests (54.10%) in the equity of Nigerian Breweries plc on December 15th 2000, by the companies within the Heineken Group, Nigerian Breweries plc become a subsidiary of the Heineken Group. |

| NB MID YEAR TURNOVER SHOWS 21% GROWTH |

| Nigerian Breweries (NB) Plc has recorded a 21% increase in its balance sheet size, which grew from N26.93 billion to N32.53 billion for the half-year ended June 30, 2004. According to the mid year financial result released by the company’s board, turnover increased substantially as result of volume from improved supply, better mix and price increase as at March 1, 2004. The company achieved a nine per cent (9%) growth in earnings before interest (charges) and taxation as earning rose to 5.86 billion compared to 5.39 billion at the corresponding period of 2003.The 9% growth in earnings was as result of the continued application of the company’s affordability policy and a substantial write off related to the closure of the old Enugu brewery during the second quarter of this year. |
